Robert Buckhannon was born and raised in Phoenix, Arizona. He was the oldest of three siblings, with a younger brother and sister. He witnessed his mother fight with a major sickness as a child. It did, however, have an impact on Robert. He never forgot the assistance his mother's doctors provided and resolved to pursue a career in medicine. He would eventually make good on his vow.

Buckhannon received his undergraduate degree in Biology from the University of Arizona. He continued his education at the University of Nevada School of Medicine. For than 50 years, the esteemed school has provided a rigorous education for aspiring doctors. Buckhannon says he is proud to be an alumnus of the school. He chose family medicine to build relationships with his patients. He desires to be the person people turn to for their medical requirements. His residency was at Saint Mary's Regional Medical Center in Reno, Nevada.
